Balloons in a Tree

January 2, 2012 by Mrs. Pimentel

Today I journeyed to the park and I caught the sight of balloons in a tree.  I guess to some extent it is evidence of New Years celebrations the couple nights before.  I don’t know if you have ever felt the deep urge to want to untangle balloons in a tree… But I seem to always get that deep heart felt urge when I see them trapped.  It’s almost this feeling that they were never made to be caught into a tree they were meant to float in the sky.  Where children or adults somehow catch a glimpse of them and smile.

Sometimes I feel that working with children with special needs turns my heart in a similar way.  They were meant to shine.  But somehow they get stuck.  Stuck with the ‘You’re lazy’ or ‘You’re unmotivated’… Or the can’ts or the won’ts.

As we enter this year of 2012 let’s challenge our hearts and minds to let these lives fly.  Let’s go beyond the tangled mess and see the true freedom and beauty these lives can enrich the world with. Hey, you never know … You might just catch a glimpse and smile.
